Crown Flow is a structured, relaxation-based therapeutic experience developed by Alicia L. DePeal, LMT, owner of Balanced Spirit, LLC in Coal Township, Pennsylvania.
This service integrates intentional therapeutic touch, gentle hydrotherapy, and a thoughtfully designed sequence of techniques focused on the head, scalp, neck, and shoulders. The purpose of this work is to support the body’s natural relaxation response and enhance overall comfort and well-being.
Within the scope of massage therapy practice, techniques may include manual soft-tissue manipulation along with the appropriate use of water and topical products to support relaxation and improve the flow of the session. Crown Flow applies these principles in a consistent and professional manner, creating an experience that encourages stillness, reduces external stimulation, and supports a deeply restorative state of relaxation.
Crown Flow is non-medical and non-diagnostic in nature. It is not intended to treat or cure any condition, but rather to provide a safe, professional environment centered on relaxation and client comfort.
The Crown Flow approach is informed in part by traditional wellness philosophies, including Ayurvedic-inspired practices, along with modern massage therapy education and hydrotherapy principles.
This method has been developed through more than a year of focused study, hands-on training, and practical refinement. Each element of the service is intentionally structured to ensure consistency, safety, and adaptability within a professional massage therapy setting.
Crown Flow is provided as a therapeutic wellness service performed by a Licensed Massage Therapist. It is not a medical service and does not involve diagnosis or treatment of conditions. It is also not a cosmetology service, as it does not include hair styling, chemical applications, or any procedures intended to alter the appearance of the hair.
In addition to being offered as a client service at Balanced Spirit, the Crown Flow method is being developed as an educational framework for licensed massage therapists. This training is designed to support continuing education and professional skill development and may be offered as a continuing education course pending approval through recognized continuing education provider programs.

Professional Scope & Service Clarification
Crown Flow is provided solely as a therapeutic relaxation service within the scope of massage therapy practice.
Services are performed by licensed professionals. While practitioners may hold credentials in massage therapy and/or esthetics, this service is delivered strictly within massage therapy scope. It does not include cosmetology services such as blow drying, hair styling, or chemical treatments.
The focus of Crown Flow remains on professional touch, structured session flow, and client comfort, ensuring a safe and compliant experience aligned with established massage therapy standards.
The Crown Flow™ Experience
Consultation
Each Crown Flow session begins with a brief, professional consultation, consistent with standard massage therapy practice.
During this time, the practitioner reviews relevant health history, sensitivities, and client preferences to ensure the service is provided safely, appropriately, and within scope. This process also allows for clear communication, informed consent, and any necessary modifications to support client comfort throughout the session.
Flow
The Crown Flow experience is structured to guide the client through a continuous, intentional sequence of relaxation-based techniques.
During the session, gentle hydrotherapy may be incorporated using a specialized basin system, allowing warm water to flow in a controlled and consistent manner. This is combined with slow, rhythmic therapeutic touch applied to the head, scalp, neck, and shoulders.
The integration of touch and water is designed to:
• Support relaxation
• Enhance the overall sensory experience
• Maintain a steady, uninterrupted flow throughout the session
Topical products may be applied as appropriate to improve glide and support the comfort of the service. All products are used within massage therapy scope and are discussed with the client prior to application to ensure awareness and consent.
Renewel
The session concludes with a gradual transition out of the service, using grounding techniques and stillness to support the body’s natural shift from deep relaxation back to awareness.
This closing phase is intentional and unhurried, allowing the client time to reorient comfortably.
Clients commonly describe feeling:
• Calm
• Rested
• And physically at ease

Hair Extensions Consideration Safety & Contraindications
Clients who have hair extensions should be advised that Crown Flow incorporates hydrotherapy, scalp work, and manual techniques applied to the head and hair.
Because of the nature of these techniques, hair extensions may be affected during the session. Depending on the type of extensions, application method, and maintenance, there is a potential for:
• Tension or stress on extension bonds or attachment points
• Loosening or shifting of extensions
• Tangling or matting
• Damage to natural hair or extension materials For this reason, Crown Flow is generally not recommended for individuals with hair extensions.
Topical Preparation & Sensitivity Notice
Topical products, including oils and botanical-based preparations, may be used during Crown Flow sessions to support comfort and facilitate smooth therapeutic application.
While these products are selected with care, individual responses may vary. Balanced Spirit, LLC cannot guarantee that sensitivity, irritation, or allergic reactions will not occur.
Clients with known allergies, sensitivities, or skin concerns are encouraged to inform their practitioner prior to the session so that appropriate modifications can be made.
It is also important to note that topical products may interact with:
• Personal hair care products
• Chemically treated hair (including color or straightening services)
• Other cosmetic applications
Additionally, environmental exposure—such as direct sunlight, chlorinated water, or other external elements—may influence how products respond on the scalp and hair following the session.
Post-Session Care Notice
Crown Flow incorporates topical preparations that may remain on the scalp and hair following the session.
Because this service is provided within the scope of massage therapy practice and is not a cosmetology service:
- Blow-drying and hair styling are not performed by staff
- No services intended to alter the appearance of the hair are provided
Clients who prefer to dry their hair following the session may be provided time and space to do so independently.
Heat Exposure Guidance
Clients are encouraged to limit the use of heat styling tools for up to 24 hours following the session.
If heat is used, it is recommended to keep exposure brief. This allows topical preparations to remain on the scalp and supports overall comfort.
Excessive heat exposure may contribute to dryness or irritation, which can lead to discomfort.

Yes. Crown Flow incorporates hydrotherapy techniques that involve the controlled application of water to the scalp and hair as part of the therapeutic experience. The level of wetness may vary depending on the structure of the session and individual preferences discussed during consultation.
Clients are encouraged to arrive in a clean and comfortable state. It is generally recommended to avoid:
• Heavy styling products that may interfere with scalp access

No. Sessions are designed to include hydrotherapy as part of the experience. Clients should arrive with dry or naturally styled hair unless otherwise directed.
Light, everyday hair products are generally acceptable. However, excessive product buildup may affect the application of techniques and topical preparations used during the session. Clients with chemically treated hair or specific product sensitivities should inform their practitioner during the consultation so appropriate adjustments can be made.
Hair extensions may be affected by the techniques used in Crown Flow, including hydrotherapy and manual scalp work. Depending on the type of extensions, there may be a risk of tension, loosening, tangling, or damage to extension bonds or natural hair. For this reason, Crown Flow is generally not recommended for individuals with hair extensions. If a client chooses to proceed, this should be discussed in advance, and informed consent is required. In most cases, hair may still be damp or wet following the session due to the hydrotherapy component of the service.
Clients are welcome to bring items such as a hair wrap or plan additional time after their session if they prefer to manage their hair before leaving.
Blow drying and hair styling are considered cosmetology services and are outside the scope of massage therapy practice unless performed by a properly licensed cosmetologist.
For this reason, staff do not provide these services.
Clients who wish to dry their hair may do so independently if space and time are available. Additionally, limiting heat styling for a period after the session is generally recommended to allow topical preparations to remain effective on the scalp.
After Crown Flow, topical preparations may remain on the scalp and hair to support the intended therapeutic experience.
Excessive heat exposure immediately following the session may:
• Reduce the time these products remain on the scalp
• Contribute to dryness or irritation
• Impact overall comfort of the scalp and hair
